This is the big one!Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to announce our next contest!
Scratch That!
What the hell is a "scratch that?"
An excellent question! This is the biggest thing this group has ever done. It will be 10 rounds of tournament style writing, with varying themes and writing styles! Each round will last 2 weeks! (Dates will be posted further along in this journal.)
Anyone can enter! We're trying to make this as big as possible, so members, non-members and their dogs may enter! Bare in mind, however, that the very first round will be an audition. Only 50 people will then be selected to go through to the competition, so make sure you write to the very best of your ability!
At the end of every round, 5 people will be eliminated. We will celebrate the best poet of that round by giving them small prizes.
That sounds awesome, but what's in it for me?

Louder Than a Bomb Poetry Slam
In 2013, #Elocutionists will be hosting its first spoken word competition, dubbed 'Louder Than a Bomb' (named after the Chicago Poetry Slam of the same name). The competition will consist of writers either having their work performed to their specifications by readers or representing themselves in the competition with their own recordings. There may also be the possibility of two categories to enter: a category for individual slam poets and another for groups. If you are not aware of what a poetry slam is, here is a quick definition and rundown of some basic, universal rules:
A poetry slam is a competitive event in which poets perform their work and are judged by members of the audience. Everyone who signs up has the opportunity to read in the first round; the lineup for subsequent rounds is determined by the judges' scores. Though rules vary from slam to slam, the basic rules are

I just read through my past journals and it seems this is my 14th lit competition here on DA, and my 17th competition overall, which is jolly! I have obviously been gone a long time so I wanted to meet people from the lit community and get involved again so this seemed like a good idea, plus obviously its almost Christmas so why the hell not!
The Theme
This year I asked my 7 closest friends to write their favourite memory from 2012 on a piece of paper about each of the other 7 (including me). They will all go into envelopes and on New Years Eve each person will get an envelope with these letters from the other 7 people about them. This is a great way to remind you of how far you have come in the past year, remember the best days and nights of that year, to feel loved, and it provides a permanent reminder that you can go back to in twenty years and remember this year. How to get literature feedback...twiceWhy don't people critique more things in my gallery?
This is an opinion which I doubt everyone will agree with (debate more than welcome). The only way to know anything for sure is to ask someone directly, so before you make any weird assumptions, do that. Looking stupid > being stupid.
Okay, so here's the scenario. You write something you think is pretty alright. You say, in your artists' comments, you are open to critique and you mean it.
Some time goes by.
Submit to a few groups, maybe a couple of favourites or comments, blah.
More time goes by.
You discover hey, there's a whole thread where people are posting works they want critique on! Okay, cool, go do that. Also someone's finally made a 'literature please' thread in the Thumbshare forum, so do that, too. Wait, whatever, something something.

I really doubt I'll make it. Everyone else's are longer, a lot were very eloquent and lovely. Mine is trying to capture a moment of simple happiness, but it's short and looks lazy. ;_;

I admit this was very fun to join in on, though. I can't wait to see who the chosen are.
